Promotional Product FAQ’s

What kind of artwork do I need?

High-resolution or vector artwork is needed to ensure your logo looks good on any product. Not sure what vector artwork is or if you have it? Open the logo file you have and zoom in on it. If it becomes pixelated, it’s NOT vector artwork. If the lines stay sharp when you zoom, then good news, you have vector artwork.

File extensions that are NOT vector artwork: .jpg .png .gif
File extension that [might*] be vector artwork: .ai .pdf .eps
*just because a file is saved as one of these extensions does not necessarily mean it’s vector artwork

Sometimes a high-resolution .jpg, .png or non-vector .pdf or .eps file will be good enough quality for us to work with. If you’re not sure about your artwork quality, just send it over and we’ll see if we can work with it or even turn it into a vector file.

What are setup fees?

Because promotional products are customizable in many different ways, a setup fee is a cost associated with preparing the equipment to put your artwork on a specific product. The fees also include the labor to make sure your logo looks just right on that product. Setup fees do not go toward artwork or proof creation.

What services do setup fees cover?

Setup fees cover the labor specific to your style of decoration. Below are some examples of what a setup fee would cover:

Screen Printing: Prepping a screen for each color in your design and cutting an inverse of your design into it. Also includes selecting and prepping ink colors for decoration. Since there has to be a screen for each color, you’ll have multiple setup fees for multiple colors. This is the same for apparel and non-apparel items.

Embroidery: Creating a digital version of your artwork that embroidery machines can read. These files have a .DST extension and are often referred to as ‘tape’. They are used to get stitch counts and let the machine know how to embroider your design onto the product. Often these fees are called ‘digitizing’ fees.

Heat Transfer: Also called ‘thermal printing’ heat transfer involves printing your artwork onto a specific transfer paper and then onto your items with a machine that uses heat and pressure to apply.

Laser Engraving: Typically an option for metal, wood or ceramic items, the laser must be calibrated to the shape of the product and size of your logo. The setup fee for laser engraving may be higher than other methods because of the process needed to get your design to the machine.

Digital Printing: Often used for full-color designs, this involves uploading your image into the printer and sizing it to fit the product of choice.

Why do some items have multiple setup fees?

If the imprint you want has multiple colors and/or locations, it will require multiple setup fees. For example, if you have your items screen printed, a screen must be created for each area of your design that’s a different color. If you choose a digital print, full-color or 4-color process technique, you may have a higher setup cost, but lower overall cost than doing each color individually.

If I order multiple items do I pay multiple setup fees?

Yes. Because each item has a specific shape and imprint size area, it requires its own individual setup process.

What are minimum quantities and price breaks?

Each item will have its own unique breakdown of quantity minimums and quantity pricing. Typically, the lower the cost, the higher the minimum and vice versa. Price breaks will come at certain quantities depending on the product.

Pricing: We do have some flexibility in pricing with some specific suppliers and we will always work to get products and the lowest price and pass any savings onto you. With these relationships, we can sometimes get you Next Quantity Pricing (NQP) meaning the quantity you need at the next highest quantity pricing or End Quantity Pricing (EQP) which is the quantity you need at the highest quantity price.

Minimums: Often times, suppliers will allow items to be ordered in “less than minimum” quantities. This is known as “absolute” minimum and it always comes with an additional fee.

Does AG have the same products as the major online promotional distributors?

The vast majority of the time we are buying from the exact same suppliers as major online promotional product retailers. Did you find a product on one of their sites or order from them before? Just let us know the item and we will find the exact same product for you.

What if I have a product I like that I ordered from another distributor?

Not a problem. First, check to see if there are any markings or tags on the item that we can use to identify it and send those over to us. If that doesn’t work, snap a pic and we’ll work to see what supplier it came from.
